An Ode to Stars
As the World turned Awry
and Some Looked Away
and Others could not
and Stared
Deep
Deep into sea
into Stars
of Lives and Light
GÜL KOZACIOĞLU is a conceptual artist who applies a semi fantastic visual language of expression to her work concerning socially pertinent subjects such as consciousness, censorship, and environmental and global crises. ‘SMS LOVE’ aired in Istanbul and Copenhagen in 2008/9, interactively beaming audienceSMS messages as poems of love with her dances to the world on media screens and projections in the public space. In Istanbul the performance was broadcast from the YAMA media screen atop The Marmara Pera Hotel, whilst in Copenhagen, it was projected from a building facade above Cafe Det Elektriske Hjorne on Ny Ostergade. The interactive performance addressed issues of surveillance and censorship in the public realm.
‘STARDUST’, a collaborative work, was realized as an interactive performance, installed atSt Helena’s Chapel in Istanbul, in September 2017, as a meditation on the transcendence between material and immaterial states, and the current dichotomy of global political systems and the living breathing individual. The video of the installation is of the beautiful Aegean sea, over which the international migration crises unrolled.
“I SEE YOU”, an interactive performance which calls out for a transformation of our ways of being and shifts of consciousness for new practices of being in all realms of life, premiered at GALERI Bomontiada in 2022.
